Leverkusen - Subject to the approval of the Federal Cartel Office, the LANXESS chemicals group will take over the “Burdomat" beverage dosing units business of R&M E.M.S. GmbH, a subsidiary of Bilfinger & Berger Industrial Services AG, as of January 1, 2008. The units are used for precise metering of the tried-and-tested LANXESS stabilizer Velcorin during beverage filling operations. This means that, in addition to its existing product range, the Material Protection Products business unit will in future also be able to offer the beverage industry the associated metering technology and a local customer service from a single source. R&M E.M.S. will be responsible for the manufacture, development and maintenance of the units.

Velcorin can only be used in the beverage industry with appropriate dosing units. The units in the Burdomat product lines satisfy all the technical requirements and are easy and safe to operate. A very accurate and robust metering pump ensures excellent distribution of the stabilizing agent in the beverage during the industrial filling process.

Velcorin provides effective protection against harmful microorganisms in non-alcoholic beverages and wine without affecting the taste, odor or color of the drink. The LANXESS stabilizing agent is added to the finished beverage immediately before filling. It renders microorganisms inactive straightaway and then degrades into tiny amounts of methanol and carbon dioxide, which are natural components of fruit juices and fruit-juice-based beverages.

From the beginning of 2008, the Material Protection Products business unit will be selling Velcorin and Burdomat technology via its sales and service organizations and coordinating customer services for the dosing technology. A 24-hour hotline rounds off the service package.

The Material Protection Products business unit, one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of biocidal active ingredients and formulations for use in wood preservatives, disinfectants and industrial preservation, belongs to the Performance Chemicals segment, which achieved total sales in 2006 of EUR 1,812 million.
